Welcome Change CIC joined the Barrett Residents in promoting their group. A map of the Barratt development was brought along so that those attending could add their names to the group and some of the group volunteers put on a delicious BBQ in the square.
The Youth club has finally opened. Welcome Change CIC opened its doors and are now offering a youth club every Thursday to local children.
4.30 – 6pm 6-12 year olds
6 – 8.30pm 13-19 year olds
We are however waiting for the outcome of funding applications in order to increase the regularity of the youth club to include one for under 12’s.
Please contact Jermaine our youth worker for more information.
Good Friday we held an Easter Eggstravaganza in the Hall. The local community also had a chance to taste samples of our new menu due to launch in June 2014.
Special Sales have started at the Welcome Change Café and Hall. Welcome has so many donations to its charity shop it sells some goods at the special sales. However, local people can also book at table and sell their own goods.
The warehouse now has an Ebay shop! We are currently selling some wonderful pieces of furniture donated by our kind local community. If you want to visit our shop and show your support please find us on
Shard End Friends move in! Finally the day centre called Shard End friends have moved into the Hall for their Tuesday and Thursday luncheon club. If you are over 55 and interested in joining the club, come inside and talk to us.
The signs are finally up at the Welcome Change Warehouse and furniture project. (Photo to follow) and our van also had the “Butterfly treatment”. The Butterfly logo is important to us as we believe in “Change” and that people can change their lives for the better. Watch this space for further developments at the warehouse as it is currently a development in early phases but we have high hopes for what it is going to achieve.
After three years of planning, we were thrilled to be able to throw open the doors of our new Cafe and Community Centre in Shard End on Friday 6th December and welcome people in. We had an activity-packed launch weekend, themed to Christmas on Friday, Parties on Saturday and Leisure on the Sunday – providing a taste of what the Centre and Cafe will be offering. Hundreds of people came to sample the food, see Santa, buy from our stalls, try out dance and exercise classes, play bingo and take afternoon tea. Our chef’s cakes are a must!
Look out for a packed programme of activities in the New Year. And don’t forget that our hall, which holds up to 100 people, is perfect for parties or special events as well.
Why not drop in to find out more? We hope to see you soon…
Welcome Change Café and Hall were delighted to hear in December 2013 that their bid to Big Lottery fund Reaching Communities was successful. The grant will fund a chef/trainer, centre Manager and Recovery support workers from 1st April 2014 for three years. Jo Mackinnon (CEO) said on receiving the news “It felt so good after waiting so long for the building, and then the building work, to hear that BLF really believed in a project that I and others had been believing in and trying to get off the ground for two and a half years” This money will give us a real chance to grow and make sure it becomes sustainable.”
