Volunteer With Us

A Massive Thank You!

At any one time, we have between 15 and 20 volunteers working at our three community venues, and we couldn't do without them! We owe so much to our volunteers, the people who show up on time, rain or shine, and give their time, empathy and skills to support the local community. Working alongside - and with the guidance of - our staff, our volunteers play an integral part in our ongoing success, helping to make sure our venues run smoothly and our visitors are looked after.

Each volunteer brings their own personality, life experiences and skills to the team, and it's this personal touch that ensures our venues have a friendly, approachable, feel when you step inside. Because our volunteers are local, they have knowledge and insight into the areas we operate in and the people in the community. To us, this knowledge is invaluable. It ensures we are relevant and understand.  It also helps our visitors to feel more comfortable, knowing that there are familiar face from the area helping out.

Helping You To Help Yourself

We want to help people who want to help others and help themselves at the same time. Volunteering isn't just about giving a helping hand in the community, it's also about personal progress. We like to give our volunteers a chance to learn and grow with us, in their own way at their own pace.

Succsess Stories

Over the years, so many volunteers have been part of our growing story, and in turn, we are proud to have contributed to their growing success. Some have come and gone, moving on from Welcome Change to new challenges, some have stayed with us for years increasing their involvement from a few hours a week to several days a week, and some have even progressed to paid positions with us.

Here are a few of our volunteers' stories, in their own words....

Luke's Story

Since I was very young, I have always wanted to help others, and as the years have gone by and more opportunities have come my way through, school, college and university I have always been first to raise my hand to help in any way that I can. And I had always planned to take a year off to volunteer after university.

Laura's Story

I first got to know Welcome Change through the Charity Shop at at Lea Village. After college, I had gained skills, but not the experience I really needed to move forward. My Cousin was a volunteer there there said it would be ideal for me to get more involved with the general public.

Dave's Story

It was four years after I retired that I first came across Welcome Change. One morning, as I walked past Glebe Farm Library - now known as Glebe Farm Community Hub - I noticed rows of tables stretching the length of the hub, with people sitting together. Curious about what was happening, I decided to go inside.
