Choices for Children

All three of our community venues offer sessions, activities and events designed with kids in mind. Some run during term time and some during the school holidays. We provide a choice, always aiming to interest, entertain or support learning. Follow us on Facebook, look out for our posters and flyers or check our Timetables page regularly for updates.

Wednesday Kids Day

Wednesday is Kids Day at our Glebe Farm Community Hub. We've set aside dedicated time slots for kids sessions throughout the day, every week. All children must bring their parents along! Although we have staff and volunteers to help and get involved, parents need to be present for the duration of the sessions to monitor and supervise their children.

Breakfast Club

Wednesday's Breakfast Club is a weekly midweek helping hand to get your kids started in the morning. A bowl of cereal or two, a cup of tea for you and a chance to chat to other local parents, whilst your children chat and interact with others in the same age group.

All cereals, coffee, tea, biscuits and snacks are free! We start dishing out the bowls of crunchy cereal at 9am and finish at 9.30am on the dot, which is just enough time for the kids to fill their bellies, ready for Storytime....

Storytime

After Breakfast Club, it's Story and Activity time. The kids gather round in the reading nook in the Children's Library and listen to a story, hand picked from our fantastic Library and read by one of our staff or volunteers. Parents then get a chance to sit and listen too, or chat over a cuppa whilst keeping an eye on their little ones. After Storytime, with the words fresh in their minds, the kid's get the chance to get creative. We have plenty of pens, pencils and paper to draw on their own inspiration from the tales told, or create their own artworks!

Kid's Club

Our afternoon Kid's Club is mixed activity session providing an hour before home time for children to get involved with any activities they feel like. Parents are welcome to join in, or use the time to relax for an hour whilst keeping watch in the background.

We have board games, word and maths puzzles, colouring in or plenty of pens and paper for kids to create their own masterpieces. We also have PCs available for kids to watch cartoons, educational programmes or play online puzzles and games.

Shard End For Kids

Because we have a huge hall ready for activities at our Shard End Community Centre, we are able to hire our space out to local clubs. We currently have dance, acting and drama clubs, and a martial arts club, holding sessions and lessons in our Shard End hall, which cater for toddlers to teens.

Momma Bears nursery, based upstairs, operates all year round from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, providing childcare for children aged 0-4 years. Rated 'Good' by Ofsted in its latest inspection on 15 August 2023, the nursery offers a welcoming environment where children form close relationships with staff and confidently explore diverse activities.

Our Children's Library

We are very fortunate to have retained links with Birmingham City Council's Library Service at our Glebe Farm Community Hub, meaning we able to mix our daily activities and sessions with the running of a well stocked library, which includes an area dedicated to children's books. From picture books for babies all the way to novels for young adults, from fiction to fascinating reference books, we are proud to be able to carry on the tradition of offering free books to entertain and engage children at this venue, which has been open since 1952.  So, why not drop in and choose a pile of books to borrow, or sit and browse whilst enjoying a drink and a warm welcome.  All you need is curiosity and your Birmingham Library card.
